What are databases?

A database is an electronic data collection. There are different kinds of databases. Think of databases with:

  • full text journal articles (e-journals);
  • bibliographical data;
  • e-books;
  • jurisprudence and legislation;
  • statistics;
  • financial and corporate information;
  • newspaper articles.

But reference books, address books, encyclopedias and dictionaries as well.

The Library pays for the use of the databases, which includes licenses. This concerns contracts with several publishers.

The databases are collected in the Databases A-Z, the alphabetical list of databases. Freely accessible sources are also included in this. Besides the alphabetical list of databases, you can consult our LibGuides, the guides by discipline with an overview of recommended sources per discipline. You can also select the type of source you want to see within these guides.
